Congregational Assessment Learning Experience

Congregational Assessment Learning Experience [CALE] is a one weekend experience from Friday afternoon through Monday morning. Its purpose is to engage a congregation in an assessment and learning experience they can use to address high priority strategic issues. This is an open and exploratory process where congregational leaders identify three to five issues on which they want to focus during the weekend.

Who? This service is intended for congregations who need an outside perspective on their journey, but can handle the follow-up actions with minimal coaching.

Preparation: The congregational leadership indicates the high priority strategic issues for the CALE, the Strategic Leadership Coach indicates the materials needed for study before the engagement, and the congregation sets up various learning experiences for the CALE.

Engagement: This is typically a Friday afternoon through Monday morning assessment and learning experience. It involves teaching, observation, focus groups, dialogue with leaders, and writing a report. At the same time there is a bias towards discovering and developing the capacities already present within the life and ministry of the congregation on which they can build God's future for them.

Deliverable: A written report is provided to the congregation within three to four weeks after the weekend.

Follow-Up: Up to six telecoaching sessions of approximately 50 minutes each are available to the congregation within 90 days of the engagement weekend.

Optional: The Strategic Leadership Coach can return to the congregation for a one to three day engagement that can involve one or more of the following: presentation of the report to a leadership group, a retreat of all day planning experience to work on understanding and making plans to implement the recommendations, and/or a report to the full congregation.

CALE Fee: The cost to the congregation of the CALE weekend and the follow-up of up to six telecoaching sessions is a flat fee of $5,000, inclusive of all travel-related expenses.

Optional Fee: The cost for a return visit is $1,500 to $4,000 depending on the number of days of this engagement. Telecoaching is available for $300 per month with a four month minimum.

Strategic Leadership Coaches: Currently leadership for a CALE is offered by George Bullard, Ken Kessler, and Dick Hamm.

Pursuing the Full Kingdom Potential of Your Congregation: CALE is based on George Bullard's book by this name. It is recommended that all key leaders read this book.
